Protecting a beauty spot from polluted mine water

Our client

Our client is a county council in the UK.

The location is a woodland park with a canal. An area of natural beauty, the site was once home to a colliery that opened in the mid-nineteenth century. Today it’s a popular spot for hikers, dog walkers, joggers, cyclists, and picnickers.

The reed bed is part of an unmaintained treatment scheme built in the nineties. Once cleaned, the abandoned mine water from the former colliery is used to fill the canal to maintain its level.

We’re always better together – the Betterment programme

The Betterment Programme, run by Operations Manager Charlie Anderson, sees three areas of Severn Trent Services come together to increase our service offering to our customers.

It involves Oren Environmental, which is expanding its team to offer grounds maintenance services for our Ministry of Defence contract managed by our Water Services Contracts team. They’ll also deliver asset condition grading services – on the buildings and civil engineering side – to assist our Central Support Services team.

Amanda’s Sri Lankan adventure

Severn Trent Services’ Amanda Bagri recently had an unforgettable trip of a lifetime, doing charity work in Sri Lanka.

It was something of a change of scenery for Coventry-based Amanda, who works as a Continuous Improvement Analyst on the Water Contracts Team. She took two weeks out of her busy schedule to visit the South Asian country, taking part in several charity projects.
