People in Severn Trent Services have begun using Waternet software – provided by RPS (a Tetra Tech company) – a leading provider of consulting and engineering services worldwide.
Waternet now replaces multiple legacy systems to capture, organise, and present critical water usage data from the thousands of assets that Severn Trent Services operates and maintains nationwide.
It will also significantly simplify the use of the information by desk analysts and field operatives for billing, reporting, and managing leakage across the networks for which Severn Trent Services is responsible.
Jon Trombley, Senior Business Analyst at Severn Trent Services, said:
The biggest benefit of Waternet is that it provides a one-stop-shop of information about our customer’s water usage on their private networks, whether it be using data received from other water companies or our own telemetry.
“Previously, we relied on multiple tools and data repositories to gather and analyse all this vital information. Now, everything is centralised, saving time and money whilst also helping to reduce risk. All the data, including historical data, is stored on its own server, which has more space, giving us better control and even more security.”
Legacy data transfer
Jon and the team took around 18 months to launch Waternet in Severn Trent Services from inception to delivery. The project involved the meticulous migration of over 20 years of data in numerous tranches and decommissioning systems and processes that had been used for a long time.
They’ve also worked with their desk and field colleagues to ascertain what they need and how they can use the software to maintain and bolster their industry-leading leakage performance of 16%.
Jon added:
One of the things we’re super proud of at Severn Trent Services is our ability to prevent and reduce leakage across our customer’s networks. Leakage is expensive, bad for the environment and can often be prevented.
“One of our key responsibilities as a business is to detect and address water loss quickly and efficiently. Having one shared picture of our customer’s water usage and then being able to drill down, track trends, and make forecasts helps us to do this.”
Legacy data transfer
Severn Trent Services has always invested in technological advances to deliver better customer service.
Jon explained,
“We’ve always had one eye on the future. Waternet is modular, so as our business evolves to pre-empt and fulfil changes in customer needs, the environment, technology, and regulations, we can bolt on additional tools to help us keep one step ahead.
“I want to thank everyone who contributed to bringing the Waternet software to life. Data may not always excite everyone, but when it is presented in a way that facilitates quick, informed decision-making that benefits our customers, knowledge truly becomes power.”
