Catch up with our former apprentices.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we’ve reconnected with several of our former apprentices who completed their courses over the past year. We caught up with Sophie and Reece, who recently finished their apprenticeships and are now working full-time with us. Read about their apprenticeship experiences below.

Sophie – Associate Project Manager

1. What apprenticeship did you do?

I completed the Associate Project Management Apprenticeship. I started in January 2022 and finished in May 2023.

2. What have you learnt while completing your apprenticeship?

During my apprenticeship, I learnt the key principles of project management, which I have been able to use day to day in my job. I gained a deep understanding of an area that I had never learnt about before, which has helped me to become successful in my role.

3. What have you been up to since finishing your apprenticeship?"

I moved into my full time role as an associate project manager in May 2023. Currently, I am working on my CPD log. I enjoy taking the academy courses, such as managing contractors and suppliers and the construction design management courses. There is always more to learn.

6. Have you got any advice for anyone thinking about getting into an apprenticeship?

Do it! I would really look into the course and what you are expected to do in the course, e.g. examinations or coursework, to make sure that the course is the right one for you. But it feels very rewarding to pass the course and gain relevant qualifications for your job.

4. How did Severn Trent help you achieve your qualification?

I was supported a lot by my manager and my colleagues, who had real work experience in the areas I needed to learn about for my qualification. Talking to them and learning off of them really helped me to put theory into practice.

7. Overall, how would you rate your apprenticeship experience?

My apprenticeship experience was great! Severn Trent Services were amazing at supporting me throughout this time. I would recommend doing an apprenticeship at Severn Trent Services to anyone.

5. Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship with Severn Trent?

I chose my apprenticeship at Severn Trent as I was interested in the company and all of the different sectors there are to work in. I didn’t know too much about the water industry before I started, and there are so many different levels to the business that people don’t realise.

Reece – Marketing Assistant

1. What apprenticeship did you do?

I joined Severn Trent as a Marketing Executive Apprentice in August 2021 and successfully gained my qualification at distinction level in October 2023.

2. What have you learnt while completing your apprenticeship?

This apprenticeship was my first office job after sixth form, where I learnt key skills such as stakeholder management. I also applied the knowledge from my course directly into my role as a Marketing assistant.

3. What have you been up to since finishing your apprenticeship?"

Since completing my apprenticeship, I have transitioned to a full-time Marketing assistant within the same team. I am eager to continue developing my skills by attending advanced marketing courses and utilising our Academy facility during my working day.

4. How did Severn Trent help you achieve your qualification?

Severn Trent ensured I had all the support I needed, with assistance from my college, a great mentor, and regular check-ins with my manager to stay on track with our goals.

5. Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship with Severn Trent?

I chose Severn Trent for my apprenticeship because of the excellent opportunities to network, the benefits offered, and the supportive framework that allowed me to fully commit to my development.

6. Have you got any advice for anyone thinking about getting into an apprenticeship?

My advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship is to explore different courses that align with your interests and career goals. Go for it—earn while you learn.

7. Overall, how would you rate your apprenticeship experience?

Overall, my apprenticeship at Severn Trent was a fantastic experience. The support from my team and the lessons I learnt while working full-time have set a strong foundation for my ongoing career development.

August 2025 apprenticeships will be open later in the year, so keep an eye out for those opportunities to join our apprenticeship program. Alternatively, you can begin your career with us by checking our open applications here
